Rising stars Jordan Lee of the United States and home favourite Sun Xinran of China were crowned boys’ and girls’ champions respectively at the 2026 World Tennis Tour Junior Finals in Chengdu.

As we have said repeatedly, this tournament is the junior equivalent of the ATP and WTA Finals and both a celebration of junior excellence and a proven step towards the elite professional game.

Those qualities were showcased in abundance as on-court brilliance was matched by unforgettable experiences off it as players were immersed in Chinese culture and given glimpses as to what life as a pro is like.

At times, the tennis was breathtaking and Lee and Sun wrote their names into the event's illustrious history which has seen a host of future Grand Slam winners, Olympic champions and Top 10 heavyweights compete.

Indeed, the likes of Elena Rybakina, Sofia Kenin and Jelena Ostapenko, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Zheng Qinwen, Rafael Jodar, Taylor Fritz, Leylah Fernandez, Lorenzo Musetti, Marta Kostyuk and Camila Osorio have all contested past Finals.

That goes to show the significance of the event in terms of an individual’s journey along the player pathway and hopefully the whole experience will benefit every player in Chengdu as their career's advance.

Lee, who was crowned Wimbledon boys’ champion in July, was in imperious form and defeated Slovenia’s Ziga Sesko in the boys’ final – gaining revenge for a group-stage defeat in the process.

“The road to winning this tournament has been incredible,” said the 16-year-old, who has previously been likened to football sensation Lamine Yamal. “It is something which is very special to me and something that I will cherish forever.

“I lost to Ziga in the group stage but played him in the final and got the victory, but with him and all my opponents we had a lot of fun on the court this week and I’m feeling good – we keep going.”

US Open girls’ champion Sun, meanwhile, defeated Anna Pushkareva to claim victory. The two competitors know each other very well having met in the final at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

“I am super happy to have won the girls’ title at the World Tennis Tour Junior Finals,” said Sun, the top-ranked girl on the planet. “I really liked the courts and the people here and I want to say thank you to all the fans.

“I am so happy to win this trophy – it really does mean a lot to me with it being held in China.”

The winner of each event will earn a significant number of ranking points. Sun, for instance, scoops 1000 – equivalent to what is on offer at a Junior Grand Slam – after remaining unbeaten all week.

All ranking points won will count towards a player’s year-end ranking. It is also worth noting that a higher year-end ranking will enable players to access higher-level professional tournament opportunities through the Junior Accelerator Programme in 2027.

All players competing in Chengdu will also benefit from travel grants to support their future progression to professional tennis. This year the travel grants once again exceed $220,000 USD in total, with the grants staggered at every level through to eighth place.
