The ITF has announced the provisional seeding and team nominations for the men's, women's, quad and junior World Group events for the 2023 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, which gets underway in Vilamoura, Portugal, on Monday 1 May.

Currently, 40 teams from 22 nations are set to compete for the four titles at the Vilamoura Tennis and Padel Academy. The draw will take place on Sunday 30 April. The provisional seeding is subject to change but has Japan as the top seeds for the men's event, Netherlands as top seeds for the women's and quad events, while Australia are top seeds for the junior event, which is once again supported by the Johan Cruyff Foundation.

Hosted by the Portuguese Tennis Federation, the World Group for the ITF’s flagship wheelchair team tennis competition is being held in Portugal for the second successive year.

Last year Portugal became the 20th nation to host the World Group since the first World Team Cup in 1985 and this year becomes the first nation to host the World Team Cup in successive years since 1991.

The provisional seeding for the men’s, women’s and quad events is based on the combined rankings of the top two singles players from each nation, using the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Ranking of 24 April 2023.

The provisional seeding for the junior event is determined by the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Committee. The Cruyff Foundation Junior Ranking of 24 April 2023 is one of the factors taken into consideration.

In the event that the combined rankings are the same for two different nations in any one event, the higher seeding is given to the nation with the highest-ranked individual player.

Following Sunday’s draw and opening ceremony, three days of round-robin pool competition will take place in each of the men’s, women’s, quad and junior events.

Thereafter, teams will contest semi-finals and knockout draws to decide final placings, with the women's and quad finals scheduled for Saturday 6 May and the men's and junior finals scheduled for Sunday 7 May.

The 2023 BNP Paribas World Team Cup will be live streamed daily, including on the ITF’s YouTube channel.
