All you need to know about the 2026 BNP Paribas World Team Cup

The 2026 BNP Paribas World Team Cup is taking place this week. Here is an ‘all you need to know’ guide to a competition which features some of the finest exponents of wheelchair tennis on the planet.

• The World Team Cup is the wheelchair tennis equivalent of Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge and Davis Cup with the best players in the world selected to represent their nations. The players selected then compete as a team in a bid to be crowned champions. In total, 11 men’s, 11 women’s and eight quad teams will be compete for glory.

• The World Team Cup will take place from 16-19 September at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. It is the first time the wheelchair tennis team event will be contested in the United States since 1999. It will be the ninth occasion in total that the United States has hosted the World Team Cup since first hosting the inaugural event in 1985.
  
  
• Many of the world’s top-ranked players, including world No.1s Tokito Oda, Yui Kamiji and Niels Vink, have been selected by their nations. A full list of teams can be viewed here.
  
  
• The upcoming World Team Cup is often referred to as the World Group and follows four regional qualification events in Italy, Morocco, Peru and Sri Lanka. These were contested by 70 teams from 43 nations, reflecting the increasing global reach of wheelchair tennis. This year’s finals will also feature a new knockout format, replacing the previous round-robin structure.
  
  
• Participation at the 2026 World Team Cup forms part of the eligibility criteria for the LA 2028 Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis Event, alongside world ranking requirements. To be eligible for qualification, players must have represented their nations twice in the 2024-2028 cycle, including once in 2027 or 2028.

• In the men’s competition, defending champions Japan will be joined by Chile, Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Brazil, USA, Israel, Korea,Rep., Colombia, and Spain.
  
  
• In the women’s event, Netherlands will look to build upon their extraordinary record having won the title for a record 34th time in 2025. The women’s draw will also feature Japan, France, Great Britain, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Switzerland, Chile, China P.R. and USA.
  
  
• Netherlands will also defend their quad title having won four of the last five editions. They are joined in Orlando by Brazil, Great Britain, Australia, Colombia, Israel, Chile and USA.
  
  
• The return of the World Team Cup to the United States will be a special occasion for Brad Parks, the sport’s pioneer who initiated the World Team Cup in 1985. His presence will be particularly fitting this year as wheelchair tennis celebrates its 50th anniversary.
