It proved a particularly fruitful week on the ITF World Tennis Tour for Czech players with the nation returning three men’s winners from the latest round of events from across the globe.

Perhaps the most notable winner was Jakub Mensik, who reached the Australian Open boys’ final in January only to miss out on silverware after losing to Bruno Kuzuhara of the United States.

Aged 17, Mensik is still eligible to contest junior events, but he has increasingly focused upon professional tournaments this season as his career develops and he progresses along the player pathway.

He already has an ITF World Tennis Tour title to his name after conquering all before him at M15 Allershausen in September, although topping the podium at M25 Heraklion represented the biggest title of his fledgling career. He sealed victory by dispatching Ukraine's Oleksandr Ovcharenko 6-4 7-6(4) in the final.

The other Czech winners were Marek Gengel and Dominik Palan who triumphed at M25 Sharm El-Sheikh and M25 Mumbai respectively. For Gengel, victory at Sharm El-Sheikh was his maiden title of 2022 and, like Mensik, the biggest of his career.

Palan also topped the podium at M25 Bakio in July, although victory in Mumbai would have come as some relief after the 22-year-old lost his previous two finals at M15 Al Zahra and M25 Indore.

Also lifting silverware at M25 level this week were teenagers Alexander Bernard of the United States and Australia’s Ed Winter, who claimed the maiden professional titles of their careers at M25 Columbus, OH and M25 Traralgon respectively.
