2026 Asian Para Games: Draws and Preview

18 Oct 2026

Forty-eight players from 12 nations are set to contest the Wheelchair Tennis Event at the 5th Asian Para Games, which takes place at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Aichi-Nagoya from 19-23 October, with medals being contested in men’s, women’s and quad singles and doubles.

The winners of the men’s and women’s singles gold medals can earn direct qualification for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games, subject to meeting the minimal qualification criteria for the Games.

With the 4th Asian Para Games having taken place in 2023, a year later than originally scheduled in the wake of the global pandemic, Tokito Oda and Yui Kamiji won the men’s and women’s singles gold medals for Japan before going on to do the same at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

With this year’s Asian Para Games renewal taking place in Japan, Oda and Kamij are back to try and win their second successive gold medals again in front of their home fans, with Oda attempting to make it a fifth successive men’s singles gold medal for Japan after Shingo Kunieda won a hat-trick of Asian Para Games singles titles.

Kamiji will bid to become the first three-time women’s singles gold medallist after Thailand’s Sakhorn Khanthasit won back-to-back Asian Para Games titles in 2010 and 2014.

Oda is one of two top 10 players in the men’s singles draw, with Ji Zhenxu of China, P.R. the second seed in Aichi-Nagoya.

Meanwhile, world No. 2 and top seed Yui Kamiji is one of four top 10-ranked women’s singles players vying for a place on the medal podium, with Kamiji projected to meet Wang Ziyng in the semi-finals in what would be a rematch of this season’s Japan Open and Wimbledon semis.

The 12 players in the quad singles draw include 2018 Asian Para Games gold medallist Kyu-Seung Kim of Korea Republic, as well as Japan’s Shota Kawano, who contested the bronze medal play-off in 2018 in Jakarta and begins his medal bid as top seed in Aichi-Nagoya, where he could meet Kim in the quarter-finals.
