The world’s best wheelchair tennis players will represent their nations at this year’s BNP Paribas World Team Cup, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida (16-19 September).

Team nominations for the flagship wheelchair tennis team event have been confirmed, with the event returning to the United States for the first time since 1999. Twelve men’s teams, 12 women’s teams and eight quad teams will compete for the coveted titles.

The BNP Paribas World Team Cup is the wheelchair tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge.

The field features a wealth of the world’s top-ranked players, including world No.1s Tokito Oda, Yui Kamiji and Niels Vink, alongside Grand Slam champions including Alfie Hewett, Diede de Groot and Sam Schröder.

This year’s finals will also feature a new knockout format, replacing the previous round-robin structure, and follows the completion of four regional qualifications in Itay, Morocco, Peru and Sri Lanka contested by a total of 70 teams from 43 countries.

Participation in the 2026 BNP Paribas World Team Cup forms part of the eligibility criteria for the LA 2028 Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis Event, alongside world ranking requirements. To be eligible for qualification, players must have represented their nations twice in the 2024-2028 cycle, including once in 2027 or 2028.

Men’s competition

Reigning champions Japan will be joined by Chile, Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Brazil, USA, Israel, Morocco, Korea, Colombia, and wild card Spain.

The player field features many of the biggest names in the sport, including Tokito Oda (Japan), Alfie Hewett (Great Britain) and Martín de la Puente (Spain). World No.1 Oda, who has won Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon singles titles this year, will look to translate his remarkable individual form into more success for his nation.

Women’s competition

The Netherlands will look to extend their extraordinary record in the women’s competition, having won the title for a record 34th time in 2025. They will face Japan, France, Great Britain, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Switzerland, Morocco, Chile, China and wildcard USA.

The Dutch team features Diede de Groot and Aniek van Koot, while Japan will be led by Yui Kamiji, who comes to Orlando after making history at Wimbledon this summer by completing her career Golden Slam with her maiden singles title at SW19.

Quad competition

The Netherlands, led by Niels Vink and Sam Schröder will also defend their quad title, having won four of the last five editions. They will face Brazil, Great Britain, Australia, Colombia, Israel, Chile and wildcard USA.

This year will be the ninth occasion that the USA has hosted the BNP Paribas World Team Cup since first hosting in 1985.

Wheelchair Tennis 50th Anniversary

The return to the US will also be a special occasion for Brad Parks, the sport’s pioneer who initiated the World Team Cup in 1985, with Parks set to attend this year’s event in Orlando.

His presence will be particularly fitting this year as wheelchair tennis celebrates its 50th anniversary. World Tennis has invested in the development of wheelchair tennis since its inception and, in 1998, became the first international sports federation to fully integrate wheelchair tennis into its governance structure and wider activities. Fifty years after Parks founded the sport in California, USA, wheelchair tennis is now played in more than 100 countries around the world, marking a landmark year for the sport and its global community.
