Zavatska defends in Brescia for ninth ITF crown
Katarina Zavatska bounced back from her opening round exit in Roland Garros qualifying with a resolute title defense on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W75 Brescia.
The 24-year-old Ukrainian had lost in straight sets to her countrywoman Yuliia Starodubtseva in Paris, but she dug deep on Italian soil a week later, winning four matches in a deciding set before seeing off Varvara Lepchenko 6-2 6-3 in the decider.
The triumph marked her second title in Brescia in 12 months, her eighth singles crown on clay and her ninth on the ITF World Tennis Tour overall.
Despite her victory, the former world No. 103 is expected to slip out of the WTA Top 200 on Monday.
