World No. 55 Rogers set to headline the field at W80 Tyler
World No. 55 Shelby Rogers headlines the field at this week's W80 Tyler tournament – the second of three consecutive high-prize money events taking place on the ITF World Tennis Tour in the United States.
Rogers, who won her biggest title to date at W100 Midland in February, will hope for another big win on home soil as she targets her second title of the year – and the seventh of her career – in Tyler.
A quarter-finalist at Roland Garros in 2016, Rogers enjoyed another milestone result in September – matching her best Grand Slam performance by reaching the last eight at the US Open, where she ultimately fell to eventual champion Naomi Osaka.
A very strong field for the Texas tournament includes four top 100 players in total – with world No. 81 Misaki Doi, No. 91 Nina Stojanovic and No. 97 Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov also set to take part, while last week's form players are also back in action.
CiCi Bellis, who won her first professional singles title in four years at W80 Macon last week, is set to feature again this week, and the 21-year-old will have high hopes of another deep run at a W80 tournament on home soil as she continues her comeback from elbow and arm injuries that halted the former world No. 35’s meteoric early rise in the sport.
Last week’s runner-up Marta Kostyuk is also looking to build on her strong week in Macon with another good run in Texas. The 18-year-old Ukrainian was in fine form throughout the week, taking the scalp of world No. 81 Doi en route to the final, where she ultimately had to retire against Bellis due to cramps shortly after forcing a deciding set.
Former Grand Slam finalist Sara Errani will hope to build on her run to the last eight in Macon, while rising stars Whitney Osuigwe, Caty McNally and Diane Parry will also be looking to make their mark.
Top seed Renata Zarazua, and emerging teenagers Clara Tauson and Maria Camila Osorio Serrano are the star draws in qualifying.
