Harmony Tan recorded arguably her most notable achievement since her career-best run to the fourth round at 2022 Wimbledon by clinching victory on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W50 Macon.

The 26-year-old Frenchwoman made headlines during a spellbinding victory over the legendary Serena Williams on the American’s last appearance at the All England Club, but has yet to build on her breakthrough 2022 season.

Though she reached as high as No. 90 in the WTA rankings that year, Tan has since slipped as low as No. 282, but a morale-boosting victory on home soil this week at ITF level could be the catalyst for another upward charge.

Tan beat countrywoman Audrey Albie 6-2 6-0 in the final in Macon on Sunday to claim 50 WTA ranking points and surge 36 spots to No. 224 in the world.

It ended an indifferent spell of form in which she had recorded back-to-back match-wins on just one other occasion this season – in reaching the last eight at W75 Grenoble – and lost in the opening round of the four other tournaments she has contested.

Tan was joined in winning an ITF W50 singles title this week by Brazil’s Laura Pigossi, who won her first title of the year and 10th pro crown overall at W50 Pretoria, and 18-year-old Anastasiia Gureva, who won the biggest title of her career – and fourth ITF crown overall – at W50 Trnava.

Gureva, a former junior world No. 12, entered the Slovakian event using a Junior Accelerator spot, which rewards the best-performing junior players with exposure to higher-level competition.
