Sweeny wins third title in a month to lead the men's tour for titles

17 Oct 2022

Dane Sweeny continued his fine form on home soil on the ITF World Tennis Tour on Sunday, winning a third title in a month to lead the men’s field alongside China’s Bu Yunchaokete for most ITF singles titles won in 2022.

The 21-year-old Australian’s latest triumph – a 6-2 6-3 win over compatriot Philip Sekulic at M25 Cairns – improved his record in finals this year to 6-1, an excellent return for a player who only collected his first pro title in February.

Sweeny, a former junior world No. 21, sits joint-third on the list for the most men’s matches won on the ITF World Tennis Tour this year with 49.

Only Belgian Raphael Collignon and Skander Mansouri (52) have won more.
