Snigur tops W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz podium to end wait for silverware
Former junior world No. 2 Daria Snigur claimed her first silverware of the season after coming from behind to defeat France’s Jessika Ponchet in a compelling W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz final.
Having last topped a podium at W100+H Dubai in November 2021, Ukrainian Snigur ended her wait for silverware by dispatching Ponchet 3-6 6-4 6-1, having navigated her way to the final without dropping a set.
As a result of her triumph on the hard courts of Spain, the 21-year-old has risen to No. 128 in the WTA rankings – 23 places shy of her career-best standing of No. 105 which she achieved in November 2022.

Kyiv-born Snigur, who finished runner-up to Diane Parry at the 2019 ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals in Chengdu, is now very much within striking distance of the top 100 and a major milestone within any aspiring player’s career.
If she can replicate the form she showed at Vitoria-Gasteiz going forward, there is every chance that Snigur could reach that important milestone and crack the top 100 in the coming weeks and months.
Indeed, Snigur was in blistering form in Spain and overpowered Switzerland’s Sebastianna Scilipoti, home favourites Georgina Garcia-Perez and Marina Bassols Ribera and Zhuoxuan Bai of China, P.R. in straight sets before accounting for Ponchet in the final.
