Rincon goes back-to-back on home soil in Manacor
Former junior world No. 2 Daniel Rincon stepped up his fine start to the year on the ITF World Tennis Tour after winning back-to-back titles on home soil at M25 Manacor.
Rincon, who won the junior title at the 2021 US Open, defeated close friend and doubles partner Abdellah Shelbayh 7-6(0) 3-6 7-6(9) in Sunday’s title match at the Rafael Nadal Academy, where they both train.
It was a first victory for Rincon over Shelbayh at professional level, with the Jordanian winning both their two previous bouts in ITF singles finals last year and three of their four clashes at junior level, and comes a week after the Spaniard beat Britain’s Felix Gil to the title at the same venue.
The Rafael Nadal Academy is proving a happy hunting ground for Rincon, who has won 14 of the 15 matches he has contested there so far in 2023, with his only defeat coming to Alvaro Lopez San Martin in the M15 title match there at the turn of the year.
