All-French finals on home soil are becoming a theme of 2021 and at M25 Uriage on the ITF World Tennis Tour it was no different as two rising stars from the nation went head-to-head in the final.

On this occasion, it was Lyon-born Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard who prevailed, defeating Arthur Fils 6-3 4-6 7-6(4) in the title-deciding showdown to lift the first professional silverware of his career.

The roles were reversed in the semi-finals of the Roland Garros Junior Championships in June when Fils overcame Mpetshi Perricard before losing to fellow Frenchman Luca van Assche with a Junior Grand Slam crown within touching distance.

Had Fils, who revealed during the Junior Championships at Wimbledon earlier this month that before every big tournament he asks his barber for a “cool haircut”, topped the podium at Uriage, it would have been a maiden professional crown for him also.

Nevertheless, Mpethshi Perricard and Fils would both appear to be following in the footsteps of a hugely-talented crop of French youngsters which has emerged in recent years.

At M25 Idanha-a-Nova, meanwhile, it was an all-American affair in the final, with Nicolas Moreno de Alboran topping the podium following the retirement of Zane Khan. This was the 24-year-old’s third title of the season.

Elsewhere, there was a second triumph of the campaign – and career – for Austria’s Filip Misolic as he built on his victory at M15 Porec in March with success at M25 Telfs. The 19-year-old defeated Romania’s Bogdan Ionut Apostol 7-6(7) 6-1 in the final.

Elsewhere, Australia’s Rinky Hijikata claimed his first title since 2019 after defeating Valentin Vacherot, another Frenchman, in the final at M15 Monastir.

Home favourite Federico Arnaboldi triumphed at M15 L’Aquila, dispatching fellow Italian Alexander Weis in the final, while Zsombor Piros claimed the spoils from an all-Hungarian final against Peter Fajta at M15 Doboj.
