Holt claims fourth ITF World Tennis Tour title of 2022 in Nottingham
American Brandon Holt leads the race for the most ITF World Tennis Tour Men’s titles this season after topping the podium for the fourth time in 2022 with victory at M25 Nottingham.
World No. 487 Holt has enjoyed a hugely productive campaign and his latest victory represented his biggest title for more than three years, since January 2019, when he triumphed at M25 Los Angeles, CA.
All his previous wins this term came in Cancun, Mexico and at M15 level as the month of January proved immensely successful for the 24-year-old as he continued to build momentum after undergoing surgery on his hand.
He did not drop a set on the hard courts of Nottingham as he surged to the final and duly prevailed courtesy of a 7-6(2) 7-5 victory over home favourite Henry Patten of Great Britain.
Sweden’s Dragos Nicolae Madaras has also lifted silverware on four occasions in 2022, most recently at M15 Antalya this weekend, although his triumph at M15 Doha, which began in December, is credited to his 2021 record.
Madaras made his Davis Cup debut as Sweden last month reached this year’s Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals with victory over Japan in Helsingborg and he enjoyed the winning feeling once again in Turkey.
The 24-year-old left-hander, who is ranked No. 336 in the world rankings, defeated Ukraine’s Oleg Prihodko 6-4 6-2 in the final as he claimed his eighth ITF World Tennis Tour title since March 2021.
Elsewhere, there was a first title in five years for China’s Wibing Yu, who conquered all before him at M15 Orange Park, FL. The former junior world No. 1’s previous triumph was at the Shanghai Challenger in September 2017.
France’s Titouan Droguet, meanwhile, claimed the maiden ITF World Tennis Tour of his career with victory at M25 Angers, while Francesco Maestrelli’s first triumph of the season arrived at M25 Santa Margherita di Pula.
At M15 level, there were also wins for Andrey Chepelev, Bu Yunchaokete, Ivan Gakhov and Omar Jasika.
