Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic claimed her first title for more than two years after conquering all before her and lifting silverware at W100 Tokyo.

Golubic, who was a member of the Switzerland team crowned Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge champions in 2022, advanced through the field and dispatched Wang Xiyu, 6-4 3-6 6-4, in the final.

Victory gave the 30-year-old her first title since May 2021 – a resurgent period for Zurich-born Golubic – when she topped the podium at Saint-Malo to scoop the second WTA 125 title of her career.

With W100 Tokyo being staged at Ariake Tennis Park, success also proved emotional for Golubic, evoking memories of the Olympic silver medal she won alongside Belinda Bencic in the women’s doubles.

“It was a dream week for me returning to the Olympic Stadium with so many great memories, and then winning the title,” Golubic wrote on Instagram.

Golubic, who holds a career-high ranking of No. 35 in the world, is on the cusp of the Top 100 once more after rising to No. 107 in the WTA Rankings following her heroics at W100 Tokyo.

Speaking of which, Golubic is the fifth Swiss woman to win at title at W100 level – the highest classification of event on the ITF World Tennis Tour Women’s – after Bencic, Romina Oprandi, Stefanie Voegele and Timea Bacsinszky.

Indeed, she is the first Swiss women to win an ITF World Tennis Tour title at W100 level since July 2018, when Voegele triumphed at $100,000 Contrexeville in France.
