Day cracks top 100 and makes American history with W100 Granby triumph
Former junior world No. 1 Kayla Day boasts a career-high WTA ranking having cracked the top 100 after topping the podium at W100 Granby with victory over Canada’s Katherine Sebov in the final.
Left-hander Day now sits at No. 94 in the world having held her nerve during a decisive third set to overpower Sebov 6-4 2-6 7-5, while the 23-year-old is the first American to win two W100 titles in the same season.
As a reminder, W100s are the highest classification of women’s event on the ITF World Tennis Tour and offer the most ranking points, prize money and prestige for the winners. Day’s triumph on the hard courts of Granby follows her success at W100 Bonita Springs in May.

“Second 100k title this year, what a way to break the top 100,” a delighted Day, who reached the third round at Roland Garros in June after navigating her way through qualifying, wrote on Instagram.
By conquering all before her at Granby, Day has become the 20th player to win two W100s in the same season, although it is worth noting that no player has ever won three, so the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down.
If she plays like she did here then Day has every chance of making history. At Granby, she surged through the opening rounds, defeating Mexico’s Renata Zarazua and then Canadian duo Bianca Jolie Fernandez and Cadence Brace in straight sets.
Day did, however, require three sets to outmanoeuvre fellow American Ashlyn Krueger in the semi-finals and then Sebov in the final, but had the necessary weapons in her arsenal to seal victory and lift much-coveted silverware.
