Chwalinska ends two year title-wait with W75 Montpellier triumph
Maja Chwalinska secured her first title on the ITF World Tennis Tour in over two years after triumphing at W75 Montpellier on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Pole saw off Oksana Selekhmeteva 6-3 6-2 in the title match at the French clay court tournament for her first tournament-win since she reigned supreme at W60 Prague in May 2022.
Chwalinska, who made her lone Grand Slam appearance in a second round run as a qualifier at 2022 Wimbledon, has now won six ITF women's singles titles, including five on clay and three at the 60,000 prize-money level.
She enjoyed a good junior career - reaching No. 44 in the world and winning the 2016 Junior Billie Jean King Cup title alongside good friend Iga Swiatek - but has endured a tougher route to a double digit ranking in the professional game.
The Pole climbed as high as No. 149 in the WTA rankings in October 2022 but currently sits at No. 241.
