Cavalle-Reimers negotiates Carle to claim sixth ITF title

12 Oct 2020

Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers collected her sixth title on the ITF World Tennis Tour – and first of 2020 – after defeating Argentina's former junior world No. 9 Maria Lourdes Carle 6-3 7-6(4) to win W15 Monastir.

The 28-year-old Spaniard produced a flawless week in Tunisia, gliding to the singles title without dropping a set before teaming up with Belgian Eliessa Vanlangendonck to win her 19th ITF doubles title (and a fourth for Vanlangendonck) after beating Barbara Gatica and Rebeca Pereira 6-4 7-6(4).

Cavalle-Remiers’ Monastir triumph represents another step forward in her good run of form of late. In her three tournament appearances since the resumption of the ITF World Tennis Tour in August following its five-month suspension, she reached the semi-finals at W25 Marbella and finished runner-up at W15 Melilla before triumphing in Monastir.

Runner-up Carle, 20, is also finding form in Monastir, having reached the semi-finals at the same venue the previous week, following a first round defeat at W15 Porto in her only other appearance since the resumption of the tour.

In the only other women’s tournament on the ITF World Tennis Tour last week, Ukraine’s Ganna Poznikhirenko won her fourth ITF title – and first of 2020 – after defeating home favourite Sandra Samir 6-2 6-4 in the final at W15 Sharm El Sheikh.

The 26-year-old Ukrainian, who had lost in the first round of three of the four tournaments she had contested this year prior to arriving in Sharm El Sheikh, hit the ground running in Egypt, winning all five of her matches without dropping a set.

While Samir missed out on a second title of the season, the 22-year-old’s run was a welcome return to form - and just the second time she had won back-to-back matches since she won her 11th career ITF singles title at W15 Cairo in March.
