Cachin wins three matches in one day at M25 La Nucia
Argentina’s Pedro Cachin sealed the 10th ITF World Tennis Tour title of his career in dramatic fashion, winning his quarter-final, semi-final and final in a single day to clinch the M25 La Nucia title.
With rain affecting the schedule at the Spanish clay-court event, Cachin’s quarter-final was one of three that could not be completed on Friday, and with Saturday a wash-out he resumed his clash with top seed Carlos Gimeno Valero on Sunday, closing out a 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) win.
A 6-1 6-1 victory over French 16-year-old Arthur Fils sent him through to the final, where he defeated Ukraine’s Georgii Kravchenko – also playing his third match of the day – 7-6(2) 6-0 to complete a hat-trick of match wins in the space of eight hours.
Barcelona-based Cachin, 25, has won all 10 of his ITF World Tennis Tour singles titles on clay, having lifted the M15 Antalya title in February.
Elsewhere on the Men’s ITF World Tennis Tour, Gauthier Onclin returned to M15 Monastir to claim his second title of 2021, the 20-year-old Belgian beating compatriot Raphael Collignon 6-1 6-1 after also triumphing in Tunisia back in February.
Serbia’s Miljan Zekic maintained his record of winning an ITF World Tennis Tour singles title every year since 2010 with victory at M15 Antalya, defeating Matheus Puccinelli de Almeida of Brazil 6-1 3-6 6-4 to seal his 24th title.
At M15 Rovinj in Croatia, top seed Corentin Denolly of France denied American teenager and junior world No. 3 Martin Damm his first senior title with a 3-6 7-5 6-0 comeback victory, sealing his first tournament win since 2019.
It was a good weekend for the French contingent, with Lucas Poullain winning on home soil at M15 Poitiers. The 25-year-old, who also won M15 Grenoble earlier this season, defeated British 19-year-old George Loffhagen, who came through qualifying to reach the third final of his career as his search for a first title goes on.
Top seed Lucas Miedler clinched the 10th title of his career at M15 Sharm-El-Sheikh, beating Japan’s Makoto Ochi 6-3 7-6(3) in the final.
