Brengle, Kalinskaya to lead W60 events in Charlottesville and Zagreb
World No. 80 Madison Brengle headlines one of two W60 tournaments taking place on the ITF World Tennis Tour on clay next week.
Brengle, a former world No. 35, is set to lead the field at W60 Charlottesville in a US tournament bursting with talent, while No. 107 Anna Kalinskaya stars in a similarly strong list of players due to play on Croatian clay at W60 Zagreb.
The two events will feature a number of players who were on Billie Jean King Cup duty for their nations on 16-17 April, with Charlottesville boasting the likes of Irina Maria Bara and Xinyu Wang, who made their debuts for Romania and China, respectively, and Magdalena Frech, who starred in Poland’s 3-2 win over Brazil in Bytom.
The Zagreb event includes 20-year-old Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who so impressively dispatched Bara and Mihaela Buzarnescu in straight sets to give Italy victory in Romania, as well as Xiyu Wang, who battled to two impressive three-set victories in Netherlands before China eventually succumbed to defeat in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
World No. 292 Katie Boulter, who was another impressive performer while on Billie Jean King Cup duty, is entered into qualifying for the American tournament as she looks to re-build her ranking following a spell on the sidelines with a back injury.
Kristie Ahn and Mayar Sherif are other notable participants at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, with the latter eyeing the second-biggest title of her career - and first of 2021 - following her win at W100 Charleston in November.
Twelve players ranked inside the WTA Top 150 are on the entry list for W60 Zagreb, with two Annas - Kalinskaya and Schmiedlova – heading the field, but facing stiff opposition with the likes of Oceane Dodin, Greet Minnen and former world No. 107 Anhelina Kalinina looking for a good run next week.
