Bouzas Maneiro prevails in Porto, Lourdes Carle hits career-high
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro collected the joint-biggest title of her career on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W75+H Porto on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Spaniard overcame Maja Chwalinska 3-6 6-0 6-4 in the final to collect her second ITF title in 15 months at a $60,000 tournament.
Bouzas Maneiro has won 10 ITF singles titles since claiming her first at W15 Cairo three years ago, including seven on clay and three on a hard court.
The triumph marked a strong response from Bouzas Maneiro on a hard court, having lost to Ankita Raina in the opening round of qualifying for the Australian Open. She had lost eight of her previous 12 matches at any level, and had not recorded back-to-back match-wins since September prior to last week.
"I'm very happy for this title, especially because I wasn't in a very good moment of results," Bouzas Maneiro admitted. "But I [remained] confident and I think my tennis grew every round until [the final]."
The world No. 151 was joined in winning a tournament at this level by Maria Lourdes Carle, who triumphed in Florida at W75+H Vero Beach.
The 23-year-old Argentine, playing in her first tournament of the year, overcame Romanian Gabriela Lee 6-4 7-6(4) to secure her 13th career singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
Lourdes Carle has now won three titles at $60,000 prize money tournaments, having also conquered all at W60 Pelham in 2022 and W60 Bodrum in 2023.
She climbed 14 spots to a new career-high ranking of No. 110 this week as a result.
Meanwhile, former world No. 26 Tamira Paszek was back amongst the winner’s circle on the ITF World Tennis Tour, claiming her ninth career singles title – 19 years on from her first at W25 Sofia in September 2005.
