There was a big moment for Finland’s Oskari Paldanius at the weekend as he won the first professional title of his career on the World Tennis Tour – at M15 Turku.

A first pro title is a major milestone in any player’s career. For Paldanius, it proves he can mix it within the professional ranks after a successful junior career which saw him reach No. 4 in the World Tennis Tour boys' rankings and win two Junior Grand Slam doubles titles.

You may recall that Paldanius, who is now 19, featured in a World Tennis video (prior to our rebrand from the International Tennis Federation) last year as he prepared for Wimbledon’s Junior Championships. Take a look. 

The teenager travelled to Europe as part of the World Tennis-operated Grand Slam Player Development Programme Touring Team, which is showcased in the video. His latest success is further proof of the value of such development programmes.

Further to this, earlier this year he received a Grand Slam Player Grant through the Grand Slam Player Development Programme. While the programme is funded by the Grand Slams, it is World Tennis modelling that determines the players selected for support.

While many factors result in a player achieving success, not least an individual's talent, hard work and dedication, the development programmes which Paldanius has been associated with will no doubt have had a positive effect and contributed to where he is today. Great to see.
