Obituary: Mohamed Houmed Houssein
The ITF is saddened to learn of the death of Mohamed Houmed Houssein, the President of the Djiboutian Tennis Federation, who passed away on 31 May.
A pivotal figure in tennis in Djibouti – a small African nation that borders Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia and serves as the gateway to the Suez Canal - Houssein was the longest serving President of an ITF National Association, chairing the Federation for over three decades until earlier this year.
Houssein was a former Vice President of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) and President of the Eastern African Region from 2003-2011.
He was also responsible for creating the Gbadoe Tennis Centre in Djibouti, which facilitated a number of international tournaments.
