Obituary: Jürgen Vollstädt
The ITF is saddened to learn of the death of German seniors tennis player and Deutscher Tennis Bund member Jürgen Vollstädt, who has passed away at the age of 71.
Vollstädt was an influential member of the seniors tennis circuit, contributing to the DTB on a voluntary basis between 2008 and 2020 as well as representing the German federation on the Tennis Europe Seniors Committee for the past nine years.
He helped bring a number of changes to seniors tennis, including the DTB’s ranking system, the introduction of the Men’s 75 German club championships, and also played a pivotal role in bringing the ITF Seniors World Championships to Ulm and Neu-Ulm, Germany in 2018 for the first time in 16 years. His achievements played a significant part in helping Germany become one of the biggest nations in seniors tennis.
On the court, he was an active seniors tennis player for more than three decades and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 24 on the circuit in singles in 2008, and No. 32 in doubles in 2014. He suffered with cancer for a number of years but continued to play whenever possible until earlier this year.
In 2014 he received the German Tennis Federation's silver badge of honour, and received the Gold-Plated badge of honour in 2018.
He is survived by his wife Greta.
