Obituary: Jose Carlos Morais

The ITF is saddened to learn of the death of Brazilian wheelchair tennis player Jose Carlos Morais, who died of a heart attack at the age of 73.
Morais was one of the first Brazilians to represent his country at the Paralympic Games, competing at Atlanta 1996 in singles and doubles alongside Francisco Reis Junior.
A doctor and a university professor, Morais was instrumental in promoting wheelchair tennis in Brazil. He founded the Chairs on the Quadra project and wrote an autobiography called Roda vida: memorias de um wheelchair.
Morais is survived by his two adopted children, Joana and Rafael, and his wife, Marta.
