Obituary: Erik Krzemien
The ITF is saddened to learn of the death of Erik Krzemien, who passed away at the age of 62 following a serious illness.
England-born Krzemien worked at the Deutscher Tennis Bund for 32 years, having begun his career at the association in 1989.
He was appointed Sports Secretary in 1996 and oversaw the renovation of the federation’s performance and training centre in Hanover.
By 1999 he had become the Deputy General Secretary and then, six years later, the Deputy Association Director. His key projects during this time included the DTB’s 100th anniversary in 2002 and the management of the flood relief project for tennis clubs.
He held the role of Administrative Director from 2010, and was responsible for the DTB’s personnel, statute, and organisational issues – in particular planning the AGM with great care and dedication.
A keen amateur tennis player, he will be remembered for his outstanding proficiency and extensive specialist knowledge, as much as for his approachable and personable nature.
He leaves behind his wife, Marianne, and two daughters.
