Finals set at Beach Tennis World Championships
Nicolas Gianotti and Mattia Spoto will take on Michele Cappelletti and Antomi Ramos Viera in the men's final; while Patty Diaz and Rafaella Miiller will do battle with surprise finalists Ariadna Costa Graell and Elena Francesconi as the 2023 Beach Tennis World Championships come to a close on Sunday.
Aside from the shock departure of the No. 2 seeds in the first round on Thursday, the men's draw has largely progressed as rankings would suggest and so it proved once again as top seeds and defending champions Cappelletti and Ramos Viera overcame Theo Irigaray and Thales Santos 6-0 6-3. That sets up a mouthwatering clash against No. 3 seeds Gianotti and Spoto, who defeated Ramon Guedez and Carlos Vigon 6-4 6-4.
In the women's draw, the unheralded duo of Costa Graell and Francesconi continued their spellbinding run with a 3-6 6-2 10-6 victory over Julia Nogueira and Marcela Vita. The unseeded pair will now face a showdown against Diaz and Miiller after that experienced combination proved too good for Veroncia Casadei and Greta Giusti with a 6-4 6-4 win.
In the mixed doubles, Nikita Burmakin and Flaminia Daina made up for early exits in the men's and women's events to claim the title with victory over Giusti and Niccolo Gasparri.
The finals start at 2pm local tomorrow and can be watched live on the ITF YouTube channel.
