Ecuador hosts second event since Tour re-start in Salinas
Ecuador successfully hosted its second tournament on the ITF Beach Tennis World Tour since the Tour’s six-month suspension, crowning champions in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events at the BT10 Salinas event on 13-15 November.
The South American nation, which also hosted a BT10 event in Guayaquil in October, saw its BT10 Salinas event become the sixth tournament to take place on the ITF Beach Tennis World Tour since the gradual re-start of the Tour in September – following on from events in Melilla, Spain, two in San Diego, USA, and one in Saint Barthelemy, France.
World No. 185 Carlos Lobo, of Venezuela, and Ecuador’s highest-ranked male player, world No. 223 Sebastián Quintana, won the men’s doubles event after a walkover in the final, while fellow Venezuela-Ecuador duo Haydana Pérez and María Emilia Quintana emphatically defeated local duo Raquel Coronel and Macris Del Pino 6-0 6-1 in the women’s doubles.
Pérez repeated her women’s doubles triumph in the mixed doubles final, partnering with Ecuador’s Danny Alvarez to beat the latter’s compatriot Antonela Secaira and Agustín Del Piccolo, of Argentina, 6-2, 6-1.
The tournament delivered ten ITF ranking points to the champions, six points to the runners-up, four to the semi-finalists, two to the quarter-finalists and one point to those who reached the round of 16.
Thirty-six players took part at the event in total, with all participants undergoing rapid tests for Covid-19 and following biosecurity protocols as issued by the Ecuadorian Federation throughout.
Attention now turns to Portugal at the end of the month, with back-to-back BT50 tournaments set to take place at Angra Do Heroismo on 25-26 November and Praia Da Vitoria on 28-29 November.
