Mate Valkusz won his fourth title of the year on the ITF World Tennis Tour after triumphing on home soil in Budapest.

The 23-year-old Hungarian defeated Poland’s Pawel Clas 6-3 6-4 in the title match to secure his second victory at M25 level and 12th-career ITF tournament triumph, all of which have come on his favoured clay.

The world No. 450, who has ranked as high as No. 242 in the men’s game, is a former junior world No. 1, having topped the ITF boys’ rankings back in 2016.

Matteo Arnaldi, another talented former junior having peaked at No. 22 in the boys’ rankings, also tasted silverware over the weekend after defeating Germany’s Louis Wessels 6-1 6-0 in the final at M25 Skopje.

The 20-year-old Italian didn’t drop a set all week (nor more than three games in any set) in Macedonia, claiming the second title of his career two months after winning his first on clay at M25 Bolzano in Italy.

Meanwhile, USA, Japan and France could celebrate double triumphs on Sunday, with two players from each nation claiming ITF men’s singles titles.

Americans Keegan Smith, 23, and Christian Langmo, 25, won at M15 Lubbock, Texas, and M15 Cancun, respectively.

Smith’s win – a 7-5 6-2 victory over compatriot Cannon Kingsley – earned him his first ITF singles title, while Langmo’s replicated his debut win at the same venue in May 2019.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Shintaro Imai, 28, and Rio Noguchi, 22, could also celebrate wins, with Imai claiming the 10th title of his career with victory at M25 Fallun and Noguchi claiming a third career title after beating former junior world No. 1 Filip Peliwo 6-3 7-5.

Frenchman Dan Added calculated his performance perfectly in a 6-4 7-6(2) win over Great Britain’s Luke Johnson in the M15 Forbach final, while Ugo Blanchet was similarly astute in a three-set win over compatriot Quentin Folliot at M15 Monastir.

There was also a victory for Hady Habib, who followed his spirited showing in Lebanon’s Davis Cup defeat to Brazil the previous week with the title at M15 Cairo.

The action continues on the men's ITF World Tennis Tour this week with 12 tournaments taking place, headlined by M25 events in France, Peru, Portugal and Czech Republic. Follow all the latest scores here.
