The present and the future. Vink wins second ITF World Champions Award
Niels Vink has become just the second player to win multiple ITF World Champions Awards in the wheelchair tennis quad category.
With the quad category being in its infancy compared with the other ITF World Champions Awards, Vink is only the third player overall to lay his hands on the prize after inaugural winner David Wagner in 2017 and three-time champion Dylan Alcott (2018, 2019 and 2021).
At the age of just 21, Vink is undeniably both the present and the future of quad tennis.
The Dutchman’s main rival for the past two seasons has been his friend and countryman Sam Schroder. And while Schroder was the only player to get the better of Vink in 2023, en route to the Australian Open and US Open titles, those two losses are far outweighed by Vink’s 53 victories.

“I could say that it’s been my best season so far,” said Vink. “I already said it last year. But this year was even better. It feels amazing to win my first Wimbledon title and to defend my title at Roland Garros. I won all Super Series tournaments and I became a better player.”
Vink started the year with two clear goals – to win at least two Grand Slam titles and to finish the year ranked No. 1. He has achieved both and done so in style.
Heading into a Paralympic year in 2024, Vink will be the one to beat, especially with the wheelchair tennis event taking place at Roland Garros.
His new goals will no doubt include gold medals in Paris and adding to his ITF World Champions Awards tally this time next year.
