The 2021 Super-Seniors World Team Championships in Mallorca, Spain, is well-poised for an entertaining knockout stage.

The first edition of the Lorne Main Cup (Men’s 85), in honour of the legendary Canadian player who won over 40 ITF World Championship titles, looks extremely close as the week progresses.

Denmark defeated Spain 2-1 in the deciding doubles, before Spain defeated Germany to leave Denmark in control of their own destiny in the final match on Thursday.

In the Men’s 80 Gardnar Mulloy Cup (Men’s 80), several close matches ultimately saw France and Netherlands prevail from Group A – despite multiple World Champion Peter Pokorny winning all his singles matches for Austria – while Germany and Sweden advanced from Group B. The final takes place on Friday.

The Men’s 75 Bitsy Grant Cup (Men’s 75) sees France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland fight it out for the title, with Chile narrowly missing out in Group C to third seeds Austria. There are some familiar names in the Jack Crawford Cup (Men’s 70), where Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Spain will battle it out for the title.

Netherlands secured their passage to the knockout stages with a victory over the US Virgin Islands and Israel. In the biggest draw of the event, the Britannia Cup (Men’s 65) sees all four top seeds progress to the semi-final knockout stage. The highly-rated French team look impressive with captain Serge Gresy setting the tone in the number one position, while Frits Raijmakers remains undefeated for Netherlands.

Germany and Spain once more complete the semi-final line-up as the draw heats up. On the women’s side, it is a similar story with the top seeds dominating across the board. The Kitty Godfree Cup (Women’s 65) sees an extremely strong German team, led by Katrin Dippner, take on France and Spain for the title.

The Althea Gibson Cup (Women’s 70) is shaping up for a Germany-France final, but Belgium and Chile will be attempting to cause an upset as the group runners-up. Chile progressed to the last four with a tense final set victory in the doubles over Spain, meaning that there will be a South American contingent in the semi-final line-up.

In the round-robin format of the Queens Cup (Women’s 75), France are the early favourites with dominant performances over Sweden and Finland. Germany also look impressive and will hope to produce a positive result against France later in the week, in what is likely to be the title-deciding match.

Finally, after narrowly defeating fellow favourites Germany 2-1 on Tuesday, France are now the frontrunners to take home the Doris Hart Cup (Women’s 80).
