Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia continued her silverware-laden campaign – and the most productive season of her career – with victory at W60 Montreux in Switzerland.

By conquering all before her at W60 Montreux, Haddad Maia, who also triumphed at W60 Collonge-Bellerive earlier this month, claimed back-to-back ITF World Tennis Tour titles, a feat which went some way to making up for defeat in US Open qualifying.

The 25-year-old, who reached a career-high No. 15 in the junior world rankings back in April 2012, now has five ITF World Tennis Tour titles to her name this season, with two coming at $60k level.

The left-hander was seeded third at M60 Montreux and dropped just a solitary set on her way to the final where she defeated Great Britain’s Fran Jones, the event’s top seed, 6-4 6-3.

Jones was chasing a second title of the campaign, having topped the podium at W60 Biarritz in July, but like Haddad Maia found her form once again following the disappointment of slipping to defeat in qualifying for the US Open.

Elsewhere, Hungary’s Panna Udvardy chalked up a third title of the season with victory at W25 Frydek Mistek, defeating Georgia’s Sofia Shapatava, 6-2 6-1, in something of a one-sided final. It was a seventh career title for the 25-year-old, all of which have come on clay.

Udvardy enjoyed a blistering period in May when she claimed consecutive crowns at W25 Naples and W25 Pelham, but has been unable to repeat such success since, with victory in the Czech Republic signalling a welcome return to title-winning form.

There was a second trophy of 2021 for France’s Amandine Hesse following her triumph at W25 Saint Palais sur Mer, which saw her defeat Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina, 6-3 6-4, in the final.

After victory at W25 Madrid in June, it is a second ITF World Tennis Tour title of the season for the 28-year-old, who now boasts six pieces of professional silverware after an upturn in form this term. Prior to this season, Hesse had not topped a podium since 2018.

Meanwhile, there was further French joy at W25 Leiria as Jessika Ponchet sealed her first professional title for more than two and a half years. The 24-year-old, whose last triumph came at W25 Glasgow in February 2019, overcame Finland’s Anastasia Kulikova in the final.

Elsewhere, there were four tournaments at $15k level during the last week, which brought victories for Brazil’s Thaisa Grana Pedretti, YeXin Ma of China, Egypt’s Lamis Alhussein Abdel Aziz and Russia’s Daria Mishina.
