Draper keen to kick on after winning seventh ITF title
Jack Draper collected his first title of the year at the M25 Sunderland event on Sunday and promptly declared his intention to “push on with his career” after securing his seventh title in 18 months on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
The 18-year-old Brit, who defeated former world No. 52 Igor Sijsling 6-2 6-0 in the final, added to his three Futures wins in 2018, on top of M25 events in Roehampton, Chiswick and Shrewsbury last year with victory in the north of England.
And now, after a strong showing on British soil, he’s eyeing the ATP Challenger Tour.
"I’m really pleased with my performances over this three-week swing,” said Draper, who also finished runner-up at the M25 Glasgow tournament, to Frenchman Lucas Poullain, and reached the quarter-finals at the M25 Barnstaple event.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to compete in my own country, and to have won a number of my titles here [six out of seven].
“I’m now hoping to push on and play some ATP Challenger events over the next few months.”
Draper was one of two Brits to reach the final at the Sunderland tournament, which also hosted a women's W25 competition.
Seventeen-year-old Emma Raducanu narrowly missed out on emulating Draper with a title triumph, though, falling 4-6 6-4 6-3 to Viktoriya Tomova of Belarus in the final.
