Dodin heads the field for W60 Saint-Malo
This week sees the biggest women's tournament yet since the resumption of the ITF World Tennis Tour, with W60+H Saint-Malo marking the first of back-to-back higher prize money clay court tournaments – the perfect warm-up ahead of Roland Garros on 21 September.
World No. 118 Oceane Dodin heads the field for the tournament at the Tennis Club Jeanne d'Arc Saint-Malo in North-West France, and the 23-year-old Frenchwoman, whose last title came on French soil at W25 Macon in March, will be eyeing her biggest title yet on clay as she targets a second title on the surface to add to her win at W25 Barcelona back in 2016.
Fellow Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier, the world No. 157, is also on the entry list, while Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic and Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina will join Dodin in aiming to bounce back from their first-round exits at the US Open with a strong run in Saint-Malo.
Harriet Dart is the lone Brit on the main draw acceptance list and will hope for a deep run at the tournament, having never previously won an ITF title on clay, or above $25k-level, while fellow Brit Amanda Carreras, 30, who made her mark on the resumption of the Tour in August with a semi-final run at W15 Oerias, will attempt to qualify.
Five-top 100 players are on the entry list to contest W80 Cagnes-Sur-Mer the following week, with Alison Van Uytvanck, Sara Sorribes Tormo, Nina Stojanovic, Shelby Rogers and Kateryna Kozlova all seeking a confidence-boosting run ahead of Roland Garros.
Rogers, in particular, may have to make a swift adjustment to clay courts ahead of Roland Garros after equalling her best Grand Slam result at this fortnight's US Open. The 27-year-old American, who won her biggest career title to date on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W100 Midland earlier this year, is through to the last eight in New York - matching her feat in reaching the same stage in Paris back in 2016.
Russia’s Varvara Gracheva, who pulled off a stunning second-round win over Kristina Mladenovic at the US Open despite trailing 6-1 5-1 and facing four match points, is also set to compete in Cagnes-Sur-Mer.
