All you need to know about the 2026 Beach Tennis World Championships

The 2026 Beach Tennis World Championships are taking place this week. Here is a condensed guide to what is a very big deal to everyone who loves the thrills and spills – and sheer electrifying action – of Beach Tennis:

• The Beach Tennis World Championships are recognised as one of the most prestigious annual tournaments on the Beach Tennis calendar alongside the Beach Tennis Tour Finals. The Beach Tennis World Championships, which have been staged annually since 2009, attract an incredibly strong international field of players from across the globe.
  
  
• The 2026 Beach Tennis World Championships are being held in Matosinhos, Portugal from 7-13 September 2026 (Qualifying: 7-8 September, Main Draws: 9-13 September). It is the first time that the World Championships will be hosted by Portugal and Federação Portuguesa de Ténis. For the past three years, the World Championships have been staged in Cesenatico, Italy.
  
  
• There will be record prize money on offer at this year’s Beach Tennis World Championships. $100,000 in prize money will be on offer across the men’s and women’s events, which is on par with the top Sand Series events. In addition, $15,000 is on offer in the mixed doubles, taking the total prize pot to $115,000.
  
  
• The 2026 Beach Tennis World Championships will consist of a 32-player main draw across men’s and women’s doubles and a 24-player main draw in mixed doubles. The junior event – part of the pathway for the next generation of Beach Tennis stars – will consist of a 32-player main draw for boys and girls, and a 24-player main draw for mixed doubles.
  
  
• Top men’s seeds Nicolas Gianotti (FRA) and Mattia Spoto (ITA) and No. 3 seeds in the women’s event Elizaveta Kudinova and Anastasia Semenova arrive in Portugal as defending champions.

• Federação Portuguesa de Ténis are staging additional amateur Beach Tennis events to be played alongside the World Championships. Amateur events at Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 level through to open age will be held, as will events for those in the 40-and-over and 50-and-over age categories. In total, more than 800 players will compete and experience the sport in what promises to be a real festival of Beach Tennis.
