2023 Wheelchair Tennis Masters draws made in Barcelona
The draws for the 2023 NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters have been made at the Emilio Sanchez Academy in Barcelona, conducted by tournament referee Javier Moreno and tournament director Marina Bronchales.
Hosted by the Catalan Tennis Federation, the ITF's year-end wheelchair singles and doubles championships on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour will be played on clay for the first time in 2023.
With the draws made within hours of the II Catalonia Open being completed at the Emilio Sanchez Academy, Argentina’s new Catalonia Open champion Gustavo Fernandez is drawn in the same NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters round-robin group as world No. 2 and two-time Singles Masters champion Alfie Hewett, the player Fernandez beat to win the last ITF 1 Series tournament on the 2023 UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
Fernandez and Hewett will also play former Singles Masters finalist Gordon Reid and Takashi Sanada in round-robin Group B.

Round-Robin Group A will see world No. 1 and defending Singles Masters champion Tokito Oda play four-time champion Joachim Gerard, Martin de la Puente and Takuya Miki to determine which two players progress to the semi-finals.
Oda will begin the defence of his title on the back of winning the men’s singles gold medal at the Asian Para Games, where Sanada and Miki were the silver and bronze medallists.
Round-robin Group A in the women’s singles features three former Masters champions and all three Dutch players in the women’s singles, with five-time defending champion Diede de Groot set to face her compatriots Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot as well as South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane.

Women’s singles Group B includes 2013 champion Yui Kamiji, who arrives in Barcelona on the back of having won her latest Asian Para Games singles gold medal by beating Zhenzhen Zhu, with the Chinese player also drawn in Group B alongside Manami Tanaka and the USA’s Dana Mathewson.
Quad singles Group A includes world No. 1 Niels Vink and Singles Masters debutant Guy Sasson, who both go into the year-end championship on the back of contesting the quad singles final at the Catalonia Open, which Vink won after recovering from a set down. Both players will also play Australian Heath Davidson and South Africa’s Donald Ramphadi, with the top two players in the group going forward to the semi-finals.
Defending champion and world No. 2 Sam Schroder will contest Group B along with David Wagner, the 11-time Singles Masters champion, former finalist Andy Lapthorne and Canada's Robert Shaw.
