Overview

The tournament is part of the prestigious year-end quartet of North American junior events that includes the Orange Bowl, Eddie Herr and the Copa Mundial Campeche FMT.

The first edition of the Copa Internacional Casablanca was played in 1977, and in 1998 it was promoted to Grade 1 status by the ITF. Renamed Abierto Juvenil Mexicano, it was added to the list of Grade A tournaments in 2004.  Until 2011 the tournament was held at the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec. In 2018 the tournament was moved to its new home in Mérida, the vibrant capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán.

Over the years the various editions of the tournament have attracted a number of players who have gone on to enjoy great success in the game, including the likes of Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, Goran Ivanisevic and Caroline Wozniacki.
