Overview

France were crowned ITF World Junior Tennis boys’ champions for the first time since 2005 – their fourth title overall – following a 2-0 win over the United States at the TK Plus Arena in Prostejov, Czechia.

As they were all week, Mario Vukovic and Samuel Dakessian were in sparkling form and won their singles matches against Indra Vergne and Tristan Ascenzo to power their nation to an emphatic victory.

Dakessian, Vukovic, Evan Giurescu and captain Gerald Bremond deserve huge credit for a stunning victory, while the celebrations of the players after advancing to the final and subsequently lifting silverware showed how much it meant.

History

The ITF World Junior Tennis competition was started by the ITF in 1991. In the inaugural year, 12 nations were nominated to take part with Spain boys and Czechoslovakia girls emerging the overall winners.

The format changed in 1992 when regional qualifying events were introduced, a system that is still used today with the top teams reaching the Finals.

The Finals were held in Japan until 1998, but the following year they were moved to the clay court venue of TK Plus Centre in Prostejov, Czechia. This venue continues to be used today.

A number of the past participants have gone on to become household names on the ATP and WTA tours.

The likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Bianca Andreescu, Lorenzo Musetti, Katerina Siniakova, Juan Martin del Potro, Marketa Vondrousova, Alex de Minaur, Ash Barty, Felix Auger Aliassime and Frances Tiafoe have all represented their nations in ITF World Junior Tennis.
