USA achieve historic double-double at BJK Cup, Davis Cup Junior Finals
USA successfully defended their titles at the 2025 Davis Cup Junior Finals and 2025 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Junior Finals in Santiago, Chile on Sunday, becoming the first nation to win back-to-back titles in both events.
In Davis Cup Juniors, the United States defeated Japan 2-0 to seal the title, with Andrew Johnson beating Takahiro Kawaguchi 6-4 6-3 before Michael Antonius overcame Kanta Watanabe 6-3 6-2 to seal the victory.
Jordan Lee also played a significant part for the United States who produced another dominant Davis Cup Juniors campaign and were worthy of their latest triumph. Germany, meanwhile, defeated Turkiye in the 3rd/4th play-off to complete the podium.
At the Billie Jean King Cup Junior Finals, the Americans - whose team also featured Annika Penickova - recorded a 2-0 triumph against France, with Kristina Penickova defeating Cindy Langlais 6-2 6-0 and Julieta Pareja beating Ksenia Efremova 6-3 6-2. Czechia defeated Poland on Sunday to finish in 3rd place.
This season has seen USA win both Davis Cup Junior and Billie Jean King Cup Junior titles for the fourth time, having also achieved the feat in 2008, 2014 and 2024. Just two other nations have won both titles in the same year: Australia in 1987 and Germany in 1989.
Antonius said: "There aren't many opportunities for team tennis so it was pretty cool. Being able to win with the team and all my friends. The team chemistry was very good. Normally we're up against each other so it's usually a different atmosphere, but we're all good friends... it was probably the key to victory this week."
Pareja said: "I think this week was really special. We all played really well. For Kristina... starting out with the first match is never easy and she killed it this week! She made it a little bit easier for me. I think it was a really good team effort from all of us and we were all super-focused. Last year was very special... but this year I think is even more special, defending the title both guys and girls again. It's definitely amazing."
