Udvardy cracks the Top 300 after W25 Pelham triumph
Panna Udvardy leapt in to the Top 300 for the first time this week after winning her second title in three tournaments on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
The 22-year-old Hungarian jumped 38 places to a career-high WTA ranking of No. 285 after beating home hope Jamie Loeb 6-7(5) 6-4 6-3 to win W25 Pelham – recording a second title of the month on American clay to add to her win at W25 Naples at the turn of the month.
Udvardy, a former junior world No. 15 who excelled in girls’ doubles with 11 titles in the discipline in ITF junior competition, has proved in impressive form on clay this year, also finishing runner-up at W25 Cordoba at the start of April.
Spaniard Rebeka Masarova won the other W25-level title on offer last week, defeating compatriot Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-3 3-6 6-2 in the final at W25 Platja D’Aro.
The 21-year-old now has three ITF singles titles to her name – all on clay – with her latest victory coming two years after her last win – at W15 Amiens in May 2019.
Other title winners last week included Cristina Dinu, Weronika Falkowska, Dea Herdzelas and first-time champions Lena Papadakis and Olga Helmi, who all won W15 tournaments.
Dinu’s triumph was her second in a row in Turkey – and her third at the W15 Antalya tournament this year, while Falkowska notched a fourth title of 2021 at W15 Tbilisi.
The win was the 20-year-old Pole’s first title outside Monastir, where she went on a 15-match winning streak from mid-February to early March.
