‘Third time’s the charm’: Kuzuhara nets first ITF singles title
Former junior world No. 1 Bruno Kuzuhara enjoyed a milestone moment this weekend after claiming his first professional singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
The 19-year-old American fell in finals at M15 Antalya events in October and November last year but made no mistake on his third appearance in a professional title match, defeating Ecuador’s Alvaro Guillen Meza 6-7(3) 6-1 6-3 to win on Uruguayan clay at M15 Punta del Este.
Kuzuhara enjoyed a standout junior career, topping the rankings after becoming the first boy to win both the singles and doubles titles at the Australian Open Junior Championships since Jiri Vesely in 2011.
His maiden pro singles triumph this weekend was his fourth overall, following three doubles victories at M15 level over the last three years.
