Terracina confirmed as Beach Tennis World Championships host
The ITF Beach Tennis World Championships are returning to Terracina in September.
Having hosted the event in 2021 as the world emerged from the pandemic, the organisers are excited by the opportunity to showcase the city to the world’s best beach tennis players.
Giancarlo De Risi, tournament director said: “It was very challenging delivering the event in 2021 with all the restrictions of the pandemic as well as the short amount of time we had to prepare. This year we are going to deliver a fantastic event to provide the best players in the world with the stage to show off their skill. We are excited to welcome the world to Terracina.”
The Mayor of Terracina Roberta Tintari added: “After the great success of past editions, Terracina will be able to give its best in 2022 again and guarantee an edition of the highest level.” Giorgio di Palermo, President of the Lazio Region of the Italian Tennis Federation, added: “Beach Tennis is in great hands in this unique location.”
The event will take place from 16-25 September, with the showcase events of the men’s and women’s doubles starting on 20 September.
The World Championships are the most prestigious annual tournament on the Beach Tennis calendar. With 550 ranking points on offer for the winning teams, it also awards the most ranking points each year.
In addition to the men’s and women’s doubles, there will be categories for all passionate beach players to enter. These include boys' and girls' doubles, professional mixed doubles, and several age group categories.
