Sand Series heads to Brasilia to cap Brazilian Swing
The best in Beach Tennis will return to the sands of Brasilia for the second edition of the Sand Series Brasilia Classic later this month, where there will be all to play for after back-to-back Sand Series in Spain in May.
It was an impressive month for Allan Oliveira and Thales Santos, who won their first title together at BT200 Campinas before enjoying a run to the final at the inaugural Sand Series Barcelona event. The latter included a big upset over Nicolas Gianotti and Mattia Spoto in the quarter-finals after the pair fought back from a set and a break down.
The French and Italian duo will still head to the Brazilian Capital as one of the favourites, not only as defending champions but also having collected a tour-leading five titles as a pair this season, including two in Brazil at the BT400 Balneário Camboriú and the BT200 Matinhos.
Michele Cappelletti and Antomi Ramos will also be looking to continue their return to Sand Series form, after triumphing at Sand Series Barcelona last month after missing out in the final of Ramos’ home Sand Series tournament in Gran Canaria.
Meanwhile, Giulia Gasparri and Ninny Valentini will be looking to notch a third Sand Series title in a row. The pair have been in red hot form since they failed to convert championship points in the Sand Series Réunion Classic final in March against Rafaella Miiller and Patricia Diaz. They will look to avenge their loss in last year’s Brasilia final, which saw home favourites Vitoria Marchezini and Marcela Vita triumph on home soil despite being a set and 5-2 down.
On returning to defend their title, Vita commented: “it’s great to be competing again where we have great memories… the crowd were amazing and we hope we can experience the public supporting us so we can face this great challenge again”.
On the Sand Series returning to Brasilia, tournament director Bruno Ferreira said: “The public can once again see the best players in the country and abroad, in one of the biggest Beach Tennis tournaments in the world… this sport has enchanted Brazilians."
After Brasilia, the Sand Series heads to Saarlouis, which hosted the inaugural Sand Series event in August last year.
The Sand Series is a series of major beach tennis events launched in 2021, offering amongst the highest prize money and ranking points on the ITF Beach Tennis World Tour.
