Sand Series Brasilia next stop on South American swing
The Engineering Club on the shores of Lake Paranoa will continue the South American swing on the beach tennis calendar next week, as the Sand Series moves to Brasilia, a new addition to the ITF Beach Tennis World Tour this year.
The tournament comes hot on the heels of the ITF Beach Tennis World Cup, being held this week in Rio de Janeiro for the first time.
Russia’s Nikita Burmakin and Italy’s Tommaso Giovannini will be looking to avenge their recent loss to Antomi Ramos and Michele Cappelletti at the recently concluded Sand Series Gran Canaria event, which Ramos won on his 28th birthday and after three consecutive quarter-final losses with Cappelletti.
On the women’s side, the favourites look to be Rafaella Miiller and Patricia Diaz, who put their World Championship's disappointment in Terracina behind them to clinch the title in Gran Canaria. With Miiller closing the gap on the number 1 ranking, a strong result could see her return there for the first time since 2019. She will reunite with Diaz in Brasilia after being on opposite sides of the net this week in Rio.
Sofia Cimatti and Nicole Nobile will look to get their Sand Series record back on track – victorious in Saarlouis they suffered a quarter-final loss in Gran Canaria as well as at the World Championships.
The semi-finals and finals of the Sand Series will be streamed live starting at 10:00am local time on October 16th.
The Sand Series for 2021 will then conclude in Reunion on 29 October – 1 November.
