Rincon makes pro breakthrough with double Dutch triumph
Former junior world No. 2 Daniel Rincon enjoyed a breakthrough fortnight on his transition to the professional realm – collecting his first two titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour in the Netherlands.
The 19-year-old Spaniard is on a 10-match winning streak as a result of his back-to-back triumphs at M15 Alkmaar, where he overcame Italian Jacopo Berrettini in the final, and M25 Den Haag, where he saw off Jelle Sels in the title match.
Rincon, who used a junior exempt entry to take his place in the draw of the latter event, excelled in junior tennis, claiming seven boys’ titles and bringing the curtain down on his junior career in style with victory over then-world No. 1 Juncheng Shang in the boys’ singles final at the US Open.
Rincon also reached the boys’ doubles final at Wimbledon last year alongside Abdellah Shelbayh, who, like him, trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy.
Rincon has often practiced with the Spanish legend as he seeks to become the latest emerging talent from Spain to make an impact on the professional game, following the rapid recent emergence of Carlos Alcaraz.
