Against the backdrop of Rome's sun-drenched summer skies, the Masters World Individual Championships for players aged 50 and above through to 55 and above reached an exciting conclusion. World champions were crowned in the Eternal City after a week of outstanding tennis.

At Circolo Oasi di Pace, just outside the historic heart of the Italian capital, a mouthwatering finals line-up brought together first-time finalists, former professional stars and serial world champions.

With Rome's rich sporting heritage providing the perfect setting, players battled for the most prestigious titles in Masters tennis.

The women's 50+ singles final saw a repeat of the 2025 championship match as the event’s top two seeds, Barbara Mulej and Julie Thu, met once again in the battle for gold.

Mulej produced a performance every bit as dominant as last year's triumph, cruising to a commanding 6-0 6-2 victory over the American.

The title marks an extraordinary seventh World Individual Championship title for the Slovenian, further cementing her status as one of the most accomplished players in Masters Tour history.

In the men's 50+ singles final, Roberto Menendez Ferre made an immediate impact in his first year competing in the age group. Facing Argentina's Adriano Mucelli, the Spaniard delivered a composed display worthy of the occasion, claiming the title 6-3 6-2, ensuring it was not only on the football pitch that Spain got the better of Argentina this weekend.

Belgium's Klaartje Van Baarle was equally impressive, capturing the women's 55+ singles title with a convincing 6-3 6-1 victory over Lithuania’s Jurate Hardy, and thereby adding a remarkable twelfth World Championship title to her record. 

The men's 55+ singles event produced one of the standout stories of the week. Spain’s Jordi Mas-Rodriguez continued his remarkable unbeaten run on the World Tennis Masters Tour, overcoming a daunting path through the draw in emphatic fashion.

The former ATP Top 200 player defeated three former world champions in succession. He first dispatched Marcus Hilpert of Netherlands 6-1 6-1 in the quarter-finals before overcoming USA’s Eoin Collins 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-finals. He then completed a dominant campaign with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Great Britain’s Sebastian Jackson in the final.

The doubles and mixed doubles events also delivered their fair share of drama and star quality throughout the week.

Former world No. 1 doubles player Paul Haarhuis demonstrated that class is permanent. The Dutchman partnered countryman Marc Duncker to secure the men's doubles 55+ title before teaming up with former WTA world No. 23 Natalia Medvedeva to capture the mixed doubles 55+ crown, completing a memorable week.

There was further success for several nations across the doubles events. Portugal's Sofia Prazeres and Lourenço Santos Lima won the mixed doubles 50+ title, while Mulej completed a golden double by partnering Dominika Górecka to victory in the women's doubles 50+.

In the women's doubles 55+, Peru's Lorena Rodriguez di Laura and Karim Strohmeier-Merino emerged victorious, while Denmark's Ulrik Laudrup Boelling and Kaspar Warming claimed the men's doubles 50+ title to conclude a memorable week of tennis in the Italian capital.

As the courts at Circolo Oasi di Pace fall silent and the latest world champions depart Rome with their medals and memories, attention now turns to the Masters World Team and Individual Championships for players aged 40 and above through to 45 and above, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 2-15 August 2026.
