Quevedo wins biggest title of her career at W100 Gran Canaria

04 Aug 2025

Kaitlin Quevedo won the biggest title of her career on Sunday night at W100 Gran Canaria-Maspalomas, defeating Arantxa Rus 4-6 6-2 6-4 in an incredible final - much to the delight of the home crowd.

The 19-year-old Spaniard fought her way back from a double break down in the final set to secure victory, picking up her ninth title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

Her highest level tournament win prior to Sunday was at W35 level - demonstrating a huge step up in quality for the emerging star of Spanish tennis.

Quevedo, who reached as high as World No.5 in juniors, is clearly settling into the professional game at an impressive rate.

She is expected to make her top 200 debut and reach a new career-high in the WTA rankings when they are updated next week.

There was plenty of high-end action elsewhere on the World Tennis Tour, with three W75 tournaments taking place.

Nuria Brancaccio won her third title of the season and the biggest of her career at W75 Cordenons, sweeping past Veronika Erjavec 6-2 6-1 in the final.

Nikola Bartunkova also won her third title of the season and the biggest of her career, taking the crown at W75 Hechingen with a 7-5 6-2 win over Julia Grabher - just hours after completing her semi-final.

Xiyu Wang claimed her first title in two years at W75 Lexington with a 3-6 6-2 6-4 win over May and June's Player of the Month, Janice Tjen.
