Prolific Yunchaokete captures sixth ITF men's title since April
It took him 18 attempts to reach his first men’s singles final on the ITF World Tennis Tour, but China's Bu Yunchaokete won that at a canter in April and hasn’t looked back since.
This weekend, the 20-year-old became the Tour-leader for men's singles titles won in 2022, collecting his sixth title in five months on Georgian soil at M25 Tbilisi.
Yunchaokete collected a milestone maiden professional singles title at M15 Monastir five months ago and promptly went on a 17-match winning streak – confidence that has translated into a 6-1 record in ITF singles finals this year.
His only defeat in a men’s title match came against Japan’s Shintaro Imai in the decider at M15 Chiang Rai in mid-June but he has otherwise been near-flawless, totting up 68 victories in the 82 matches he has played this season.
A former junior world No. 5, Yunchaokete has a track record for prolific spells of form. He won seven junior titles in China in 2018, embarking on a 21-match winning streak at one point, and collected 13 boys’ singles titles overall. His junior career culminated in his participation at the prestigious ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals in Chengdu in 2019.
It was a good weekend for China, Great Britain, France and Italy, who could celebrate multiple men’s titlists on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
