PlayReplay Electronic Line Calling system gets real-time silver status
The ITF is pleased to announce that PlayReplay have met the criteria for real-time silver-level Electronic Line Calling (ELC) on hard courts.
Electronic Line Calling systems are now classified as either Gold, Silver or Bronze under evaluation procedures announced by the ITF in July 2025.
The assessment of the PlayReplay system as meeting silver-level criteria for real-time line calls follows a rigorous multi-stage testing process.
It has been assessed against stringent requirements and passed accuracy, choreographed, match play, shadow, live testing and additional reliability audits as detailed in the ELC Evaluation Procedures.
“The continued roll-out of silver-level ELC systems is an exciting moment for tennis, enabling the use of lower-cost, smaller-footprint systems whilst providing an accurate, reliable ELC experience to players, fans and officials," said Stuart Miller, the ITF's Executive Director for Science and Technical.
“This classification is the first silver-level ELC system to provide real-time line calls and we are looking forward to seeing silver-level systems used in tournaments around the world.
“Innovations like these, carefully managed and introduced, have the potential to democratise the competition experience for players worldwide, and we hope will result in a better tournament experience for all.”
Hans Lundstam, CEO of PlayReplay, added: “We are thrilled to be the first – and only – system to achieve silver classification for real-time electronic line calling.
“This milestone is not only a defining moment for PlayReplay, but also an important step forward for the global tennis community. We are incredibly proud to have earned this qualification and we believe our technology fills a critical, previously unmet need and could address the vast majority of tournaments played worldwide.
"The ITF’s classification is also a powerful validation of PlayReplay’s vision and our commitment to delivering accurate and reliable electronic line calling with a light footprint, broad accessibility and a fair match experience for every player.
"We look forward to supporting the ITF’s mission and playing a key role in expanding high-quality electronic line calling across the sport."
The changes to the classification of Electronic Line Calling systems were introduced following collaboration between the international tennis governing bodies (four Grand Slams, ATP, WTA and ITF).
Prior to that announcement, there had been one level of classification which applied to systems intended for use at elite-level events. The new three-tiered system creates access to the technology at a broader range of levels.
Gold systems are intended for use at elite international-level competitions, such as Grand Slams, WTA and ATP Tours, Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge and Davis Cup.
Silver systems are intended for use at second tier international-level competitions, such as the ITF World Tennis Tour, and Bronze systems are aimed at national-level competitions.
Systems that meet the relevant standards are awarded classification at the appropriate level and are eligible to be used in events sanctioned by the international governing bodies.
The principles by which systems are assessed – accuracy, reliability, suitability and practicality – are the same at all levels. The new procedures unify the international governing bodies’ approach to the evaluation and ongoing monitoring of ELC systems.
Wider, more collaborative testing and sharing of results will ensure systems’ accountability and high standards of ELC delivery across the whole tennis calendar.
