Orlando to host year-end championships
The USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Orlando will host both ITF year-end wheelchair tennis championships for singles and doubles simultaneously in 2019.
The NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters.2019, which will take place on 19-26 November, brings together a blend of 22 of the world’s top ranked singles players and 18 of the world’s top ranked doubles partnerships across the men’s, women’s and quad divisions on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
It will be the second time in seven years that the traditional year-end singles and doubles championships have been held at the same venue and at the same time after Mission Viejo, California, staged events in 2013.
It will also be only the second time since 2002 that the two championship events have been held at the same venue.
The NEC Masters, which was first held in 1994, is the ITF year-end championship for the world’s top eight men’s and women singles players and the world’s six quad singles players.
NEC has been title sponsor of the prestigious event since its inception in 1994. The tournament celebrated its 25th edition in 2018, when it moved to the USTA National Campus for the first time.
The UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters is the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis doubles event. First staged in 2000, the season-ending event currently features the world’s top eight men’s pairs, top six women’s pairs and top four quad pairs. UNIQLO became the title sponsor in 2014.
Entries for the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters.2019 will be based on singles and doubles rankings on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Rankings as at 7 October, six weeks before the start of the event.
